Let’s Party #21

Hey! Are you ready for another party! I am!

Mark had his SIXTH and last treatment 2 weeks ago. He is skipping this week as we have his follow up at MD Anderson on Thursday and Friday this week … thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated!  Depending on the results of his scans will determine if he continues the brutal every other week for 3 days each time treatment or if something else needs to be done. I will add that the metal taste has not gone away, he’s still sensitive to cold foods/drinks, his fingertips are numb and tingly as are the bottoms of his feet. The doctor was to have turned down the drugs that cause neuropathy but Mark thinks maybe he turned it up since the last treatment really kicked his butt.

I missed the last 2 weeks … came down with a wicked cold (and yes, Mark did catch it as well 🙁 but recovered faster than me!) and work was just plain crazy busy. I’m glad May is over but not so happy we are in the sixth month of the year!

Homebrewed Ice Tea

Homebrewed

Kind of a strange word, in my opinion.

Regardless, it IS homebrewed tea.

Easy to make ice tea

See, Mark LOVES ice tea … you know, Arnold Palmer and Pure Leaf and all those others that you can buy pre-made. Which we always did buy them, beats buying soda and such,  right?

But then the cancer stuff came around and well, he just needs to be a little more aware of what he’s eating and making sure he drinks PLENTY of fluids …

No problem, you say? It is! This chemo stuff has given him this nasty metallic taste in his mouth. *FYI – lemon flavored stuff seems to help offset that taste*

And then we just have to deal with one of the side effects of this chemo and that is the feeling of something in the back of his throat that makes him want to gag for those 10 to 12 days whenever he swallows something.

Cold foods and drinks are pretty much a no go from the first day of infusion (Tuesday) to about 10 days later (so he has, maybe, 3 to 4 days where he can tolerate ‘cool’ foods and drinks) as if feels like glass shards and electrical currents (eek!)

I just decided to start making him a batch of tea every morning. And dang, it’s so easy!

Lipton tea bags

Not to mention, we are saving a few dollars a day doing this! Those Pure Leaf teas that he loves? They were $5.99 a bottle and he used to drink one a day … which, again, was fine as he needs to stay hydrated. THIS way is much better!

Pure Leaf Tea

All you need is:

4 cups boiling water (I don’t have a tea kettle so I just heat the water in a sauce pan)

2 regular size tea bags

2 tsp sugar (I use real sugar)

4 cups of cold water (I toss in 1 or 2 ice cubes as well to cool it down fast)

Just pour the boiling water over the 2 tea bags and add your sugar.  Let the bags steep for about 5 to 10 minutes. Pull the bags out and toss them. Sorry, resist the urge to squeeze all the liquid out, just toss them!

Add your 4 cups of cold water and give a quick stir. I have to let the tea sit out all day on the counter and since my glass pitcher doesn’t have a lid, I just put a piece of press n seal over the top.

ice tea

Mark keeps telling me how good the tea is. Kind of makes me laugh because dang, it’s so simple to make!

Ok, quick survey: Iced Tea or Ice Tea? Which is the proper wording??

Looking forward to sharing with some of these GREAT Parties … go check them out!

Lets Party #20

Hey! Are you ready for another Party??

Mark had his 5th Treatment last Tuesday … as you may have noted, he was still sleeping when I put the party up late on Wednesday.  Shortly after I hit ‘publish’ he walked in the office … and scared the snot out of me!  His tshirt was 80% red … apparently at some point, he must have been fidgeting (imagine that?) and one of the connections on tube/line came undone and instead of the chemo pumping IN, the blood was pumping OUT (and yes, I believe the chemo was dripping out as well. We had to call the on-call nurse who came out a few hours later to make sure all was well after Mark put it back together. I think he was a little freaked out and just plugged himself back together without thinking twice!

I’m hoping you all had an awesome time this past weekend with Cinco de Mayo, the Kentucky Derby, my birthday AND if you live local, the Air and Sea Show!

Mark had treatment #5 Tuesday. Currently sleeping still this morning as that stuff makes him all jacked up on Tuesday … was fidgeting still at 2am so I have no idea what time he fell asleep finally! We head to Houston that first week of June so excited/nervous/scared … prayers are accepted!

Last week we had some AWESOME shares yet again! You guys all rock! Thank you for stopping by each week to give inspiration and ideas to all of us!

Hey! Are you ready for another Party??

Party Size Peanut M&M
Mark is up in Indiana this week so that there has been my dinner …. just kidding, not really, I’ve not even opened them yet! I have, however, consumed TWO cans of Pringles during dinner hour … need to get a little more focused at that time!

We had some GREAT shares last week, AGAIN! Thank you all for stopping by and sharing your wonderful ideas and projects!

Let’s Party #17!

Hey! Are you ready for another Party??

I had a quick trip to NW Indiana last Thursday and Friday to help Mark out with a couple of units … he wasn’t feeling all that great earlier in the week so I decided to just go help him out! I’m glad I did, but I must say, the weather was … different. COLD at night and beautiful looking during the day except that wind! 😉 I’ve become a thin blooded Floridian!

Mark had his 4th treatment today (Tuesday) and he’s all worked up. Those steriods really do their job! This week, he will take a pill on Friday to offset his worst feeling day. I guess it’s because he goes off the pump on Thursday afternoon and his body really starts to feel the effects of the chemo on Friday … he’s feeling the neuropathy and his skin is starting to break down around the port. Luckily he only has TWO more treatments and then we head to Houston for another scan to see how things are progressing and improving, hopefully!

Vineta over at the The Handyman’s Daughter caught my attention again with her post on how Build Recessed Bathroom Shelves … if she keeps this up, I might just go ahead and re-do my awful dusty rose bath!

Kit at The Kittchen shared her Lemon Parmesan Fettuccine … this caught my eye as the nutritionist had told Mark to try lemon seasoned foods when he is dealing with the metallic taste in his mouth (which has stayed with him now for the past 2 weeks) …

I’m am ready to get this party on the road again!

Just Like Olive Garden Salad

Stay home tonight and make yourself a salad just like Olive Garden!

It’s been a LONG time since I’ve been inside an Olive Garden restaurant … the unlimited salad and breadsticks used to always get me … I am a sucker for warm, soft bread, you know? Oh, and I just love that salad too … the dressing, luckily, is easy to replicate, as is the salad itself.

IMG_5900.JPG

Quick! Does anyone else have these really cool metal bowls from, probably the mid 1960’s early 1970’s? My mother in law had a ton and when she passed away, I snagged a few to bring home … my all time favorite salad bowls!

The other good news about this salad? Saving you moola … as in a minimum of $20 … like I said, been a LONG time since I’ve been to Olive Garden but I do remember that a dinner entree was at least $12.99 and that was a few years ago … so figure two people, easily $25 AND then most likely, a beverage (or two) and there you have it … el cheapo night out got a little more expensive …

Let’s Party #16!

Hey! Are you ready for another Party??

Mark had his third treatment last Tuesday … it was a rough recovery … still has that metallic taste in his mouth, can’t eat anything cold, hands are VERY sensitive to cold and his toes are starting as well (I believe this is the neuropathy side effect). He flew to Indiana on Friday morning and has just had a rough time there. So much so that I booked a flight for Thursday morning to spend a few days with him and then fly back together on Saturday afternoon …

Butt warmer

I’m laughing at Big Kitty from a while ago … he gets a little needy and jelly too so he’ll just park himself on the laptop when I walk away! This is an OLD picture as that phone! 2010 folks! So long ago! As I type this post he is sitting on my lap wondering when I’m going to relocate to the couch!

We had some great shares again this last week!!

Venita at the Handy Mans Daughter shared her bathroom renovation … I’m really drawn to this post because we have this awful rose colored bathroom (that we know – we’ve been told! – is hindering our sale!) … I’m going to have to follow along on her project and check out her other stuff too!

Katie at Paradise Praises shared How To Create Happiness … this could not come at a better time in my life than now! Yes, a lot of it is geared towards those with kids (she does have 5!) but still … as an adult, I still want to experience happiness so I’m all for it!

AND then we had Jennifer over at Busy Being Jennifer sharing all those awesome Cinco de Mayo cocktails! Did you know that my birthday IS on Cinco de Mayo? Arriba!  She shares FIFTY cocktails! Sweet momma, I don’t think I can do all 50! Go check it out, I’m sure there’s one or two that will be calling your name!

I’m am ready to get this party on the road again!

Let’s Party #15

Hey! Are you ready for another Party??

We’ve been enjoying the pool and Mark even broke down and finally bought some chaise lounge chairs to put poolside. He’s coming around in his older years!

simpler wines rose case.jpg
I need to hit up Trader Joe’s soon and stock up on a case of these little canned wines before summertime hits … they were perfect for Saturday afternoon floats!

Mark had his 3rd treatment Tuesday and is currently hooked up to his IV for the next 2 days. Totally felt that cold sensitivity this afternoon … poor guy. I feel bad and he just doesn’t feel good this evening. Currently sleeping in the recliner as I type this up …

There were some great shares last week! My most favorite would be the 5 Mental Hacks to Have a Happier Life

Then there was the awesome Sunday Dinner Roundup … who needs a special Sunday to cook up some of that stuff? I’ve already pinned a few of the recipes she shared!

And then, with summertime coming up, many of you are probably counting the days with these April snowstorms, it’s time to Transform Your Deck and get them clean!

So let’s see what you have to share this week! I’m fairly easy going and will not tire you with rules, BUT please, make sure you share family friendly links and tips and while you are at it, go visit some of the other folks who are sharing here!
